There's something magical about connecting with people—really seeing them, laughing with them, crying with them, witnessing their stories unfold. For me, Emily, photography became that calling. From learning in the darkroom to studying photojournalism at the University of Florida, where I earned my BS in journalism and communications, I discovered that telling stories through images was more than a skill; it was my purpose.
My photojournalism work has been recognized nationally and internationally, earning awards from the Hearst Journalism Awards and the International Documentary Photography Awards, as well as recognition from the University of Florida International Center of Global committee. In 2006, I was selected to participate in the prestigious Eddie Adams Workshop, an honor given to only a small group of emerging photojournalists each year. My photo stories were exhibited at the 2005 Florida FlyIns and again in 2006 at Pingyao, China’s most esteemed photography festival—experiences that deeply shaped my understanding of light, composition, and the responsibility of bearing witness to people’s lives. Working as a freelance photographer for news publications across the country taught me to anticipate moments, to move quickly but thoughtfully, and to find the story within the story. But what I realized, through all those assignments and accolades, was that the part of the job that truly lit me up wasn't the breaking news—it was the connection.
Aaron and I met at the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and he too has devoted his life to understanding people, running his psychology practice for over 15 years. Photography became his creative outlet, and together, working as a husband-and-wife team, we get to witness some of life's most meaningful moments: marriages, families, milestones. Every weekend reminds us to pause, take a breath, and appreciate each other, while seeing so many couples commit to a lifetime together.
Our work isn’t just about images. It’s about preserving memory, honoring connection, and celebrating the messy, joyful, beautiful reality of life. Being trusted with these moments, being invited into them, is the greatest privilege we could ask for. And we do it all with laughter, care, and the deep belief that real moments are the ones worth remembering.
What sets photojournalistic photography apart from traditional wedding photography is a fundamental difference in philosophy and approach.
Traditional wedding photography often relies heavily on posed portraits, structured shot lists, and directing subjects into specific positions and expressions. The photographer takes control, arranging people, adjusting details, and creating scenes that may look beautiful but don't always reflect what actually happened.
Photojournalistic photography, on the other hand, is rooted in observation rather than direction. It's about capturing the wedding day as it genuinely unfolds—the stolen glances, the tears that fall unexpectedly, the burst of laughter during a toast, the tender moment between parent and child when they think no one is watching. A photojournalist doesn't interrupt these moments; they anticipate them, position themselves to capture them, and preserve them exactly as they happened.
This approach requires a different skill set entirely.
Emily learned to read body language and emotion in fractions of a second, to understand lighting conditions instantly and adapt without stopping the action, and to tell a complete, cohesive story through a series of images rather than relying on a few posed shots. Where traditional photographers might spend twenty minutes arranging a family portrait, a photojournalist captures the family naturally embracing after the ceremony, tears still fresh on their cheeks, genuine smiles lighting up their faces.
It's why she values real moments over posed perfection, why she seeks connection over convention, and why the images she creates feel less like photographs and more like memories you can hold in your hands. When you look through your wedding gallery years from now, you won't just see beautiful pictures—you'll be transported back to those moments, feeling them all over again, exactly as they were.

“Emily Harris Photography was the first decision I made when planning my wedding, and the best one! Once you meet her you can't help but fall in love with her!
She is so easy going and her work is nothing short of perfection. Our engagement pictures turned out amazing and she was very fast with the turnaround at getting them back to you. When our wedding day approached she made the whole process a pleasure and captured some special moments no one could pose for or recreate. During the reception we didn't even know she was there, but managed to get pictures we will have forever. Her husband, also a photographer, was also so nice and easy going. They really make a dynamic duo! In my opinion, Emily is a must for your wedding!! She's simply the best!“

“Memories to last a lifetime! Emily captures every emotion and moment from the bride and groom.
I never realized until getting married, how important your photographer is-she was helping me with the bustle on my dress during the reception, giving amazing direction to the videographer, keeping all my friends and family together for all the pictures-simply made everything easy and effortless; worth every penny and so much more! Absolutely the best decision I made for my wedding day…besides marrying my amazing husband of course!”

The photos came out beautiful. She ensured I felt calm, confident and ready for a great day and to actually be able to enjoy the moment. Her and Aaron were on time, professional, followed my schedule, got all the photos and more I had hoped for and made us laugh and smile. To top it all off, Emily ensured she captured all the right moments at the wedding and even helped with my dress bustling. She truly is an amazing person, photographer and girlfriend.
